Happy Birthday, to my country, and my book!

Two in Winter was originally scheduled to be released this past Monday, 7/2. Over the weekend, massive storms knocked out power to millions, wreaking havoc on computer systems, including those that power Liquid Silver Books’s shopping cart, and the release was delayed.

If I were the type to keep a bucket list (I am so totally not), I would be crossing off the “publish a book” line today. Whoa. That’s a big deal to me, as a writer. A part of me never believed it could actually happen. It seemed somehow, bigger than me.

But, this was the year of taking chances, the year I decided to be braver than me, and bigger than me, and today I became a published author.

Happy Birthday, Two in Winter, you quirky little nugget of my brain! You’ll share your birthday with the United States of America. I know, I know. I share my birthday with my twin brother, who has always been smarter and funnier and better-looking than me. Somehow, you’ll manage, little book, to find your own identity.

Happy Independence Day to my countrymen and women who are celebrating today. Be safe, be well, be happy. Be bigger than yourselves, and braver than yourselves, because you never know what might happen if you just try. Just, please don’t follow that last bit of advice when it comes to fireworks. Leave the explosives to professionals.

Two in Winter

An unexpected delay…

Hi Friends,

Liquid Silver Books is currently experiencing some hardware issues which have made the shopping cart temporarily unavailable. Everything should be up and running smoothly sometime on Wednesday, so the release of Two in Winter has been delayed by just a couple days.

*V furtively shoves confetti back in her pockets and whistles as if she knew how*

Two days, friends! Wheeee! We’ll party like it’s the Fourth of July–um well, it will be the fourth of July–and in the mean time, I will amuse you with my juggling and dirty jokes. Nah, just kiddin’. See you all on Wednesday!

A cabin in the woods, a moment of solitude

V’s Treehouse

I really think ol’ HDT had the right idea. There is something to be said for a quiet moment alone in the woods. Let me paint the scene for you:

The Wiccan Haus resort is on an island off the coast of Maine. Your cell phone and your computer won’t work on the premises, but you won’t miss your facebook feed or your twitter stream when you’re relaxing in the waters of the natural hot spring, or meditating on the lawn during one of Trixie’s deep-breathing classes. A short ride away from the main Haus, there is an apple orchard where the apples are always in season.

And somewhere on the island (I won’t disclose the locations, for privacy you see) the Wiccan Haus authors have built our tree houses, our own private retreats where we can gather to brainstorm the very best stories from the goings-on at the Wiccan Haus to share with you. With Wiccans, shifters, vampires and more all mixing with ordinary humans like you and me, there are so many stories yet to be told! Lillian Grant: Breaking Up is Hard to Do

V: Today I’m welcoming Lillian Grant to the blog. Lillian writes erotic romantic comedy and is sharing some thoughts on writing her “Reigning Men” trilogy with us.

When I first started writing I was in awe of people that could write really long stories, and people that could manage a series amazed me. How did you do that? How did you make one story, into two or three or four? It turns out love is the answer. You fall in love with the characters and you just can’t let them go. Their lives become so real you just have to know what happens next. However, like in real life relationships, sometimes you know it’s time to say goodbye.

I have just typed the words “The End” for book three of my Reigning Men series. The story is done and it’s time for me to move onto something else.

I still remember the idea that sparked book one; what would happen if a girl who had never enjoyed a mutually fulfilling relationship accidentally became a pimp for a stripper who wanted to try being a prostitute? And so were born Meg Riley and Irishman and male stripper Michael Monaghan. Now, you might think okay so we have our heroine and hero, but alas no. Michael had a long way to go to become hero material. No need to fear, in steps Sam Stephens, Meg’s flatmate and a man who starts out wanting to show her how good sex can be and ends up falling in love with her. Meg and Sam needed more to work with if I was going to have a plot big enough for a full length novel. I had the brilliant idea to toss in Meg’s mother, a woman who appears to have a pathological fear of sex, especially if it involves her daughter and any male of the species. Just for shits and giggles, I invented Great Aunt Maud. The octogenarian who thinks every man she meets wants to lay her. Voila, Male Order, a romantic comedy was born. The plot grew and grew and when I got to the end I had fallen in love with the crazy people now living in my head. The star of Book One was undoubtedly Sam. The man was put through things that would test the patience of a saint but he never gave up on Meg even when she thought he would.

Not able to shake off the story I got to work on Book Two, Male Review. My crazy cast all get involved in a BDSM themed Male Strip club that Maud buys into. Maud and Meg’s mother move into the poor girl’s flat and Sam moves out. Now my lovers have to sneak sex in where they can. However, deciding to use the club after closing opens them up to a whole new world; a world of submission, spanking and inadvertently providing entertainment for voyeur Michael Monaghan. The club isn’t just the backdrop for the story it also provides the solution to getting the crazies out of Meg’s flat. The star of this story is Great Aunt Maud. She causes most of the mayhem but proves to be more astute than you would imagine if you were to ever try to have a sane and sensible conversation with her. I absolutely love Maud. She is one of those old ladies that says whatever comes into her head, appropriate or not.

I thought I was done, but one cast member wanted his moment in the spotlight. Michael was ready to step up and show he had grown enough to be a hero. Unfortunately he had already chosen his heroine, Meg. Now how do I get him and Meg together without upsetting lovely Sam? A ménage perhaps? Although Michael would need to do something pretty spectacular to convince Sam to let him get into bed with them. Does he manage it? Well you’ll have to wait until I get book three contracted and published to find out.

A reading from Two in Winter

I promised a reading from Two in Winter, so here it is! I always thought it would be fun to do a book reading, though I pictured it as a cozy little bookshop reading–things have certainly changed since I first thought it might be fun to write a book someday! But doing the reading on the web means I got to do a second take when I stumbled partway through. So, you all get the best of me, and hubs and I got a good laugh out of the first take. Enjoy!
