Oh, heartbreakers. Who are these bad boys and why do we love them?
I have a habit of writing a specific kind of heartbreaker in my books: the “no-call, no-show” heartbreaker. You know the guy… you’re all twitter-pated with him and things are going great and you think this is IT, the big love… and then he disappears. Takes off. Doesn’t come back. And he doesn’t call, so you’re left wondering if it was something you said?
Now, my heroes always have a good reason for pulling the no-call, no-show routine, but that doesn’t make it any less hurtful. So that leads to how the heartbreaker comes back and earns his redemption (and that’s my favorite part!) So, yeah I love the heartbreakers, because in the end, they’re the ones who have to come back and patch things up. In the end, it’s the heartbreakers who have to make it work.
One such heartbreaker was Zeke Lucassen, the hero of Fight or Flight. The gorgeous prosecuting attorney in Tirzah Simonian’s murder trial falls hard for the woman he can’t have…
Given a choice between fight or flight, Tirzah Simonian has always been a fighter, but when she turns to flight to escape her disastrous marriage, her life comes crashing around her in a stolen transport. Now she’s to be tried by court-martial, and an acquittal is her only chance to save her career and get her life back on track.
Advocate-Commander Zeke Lucassen has no love for women who abandon their spouses. He’s under pressure from the Fleet to close the case hard and imprison Tirzah in the work camps, but the evidence he’s been given doesn’t add up. He has to choose between believing the evidence provided by the investigator, or the growing conviction the pilot may have been acting in self-defense.
Given the horrors in their pasts, neither one has any reason to trust the other, but both their futures depend on finding common ground.
